Graduating from school is a very important milestone for a young person, and great care is taken in preparation for it. The bouquet of flowers given as a gift should also be thoughtfully chosen.
1) Flowers or cut flowers? Both are suitable, but it is important to consider that if the graduate is given many flowers, a carefully arranged bouquet could be crushed. Small bouquets with short stems are also difficult to hold if there is already a larger bunch of flowers in front. So, the suggestion is—preferably flowers or bouquets with longer stems.
2) Are the colors important? If you know the color of the graduate’s outfit, flowers can be chosen accordingly, especially for girls. If you know the recipient’s favorite color, you can also choose flowers based on that. However, you shouldn’t put too much emphasis on this, as many flowers are given, and they are usually diverse. More important than the color of the flowers is their freshness.
3) Scents, thorns, and other distractions. Keep in mind that the young person has to stand with the bouquet, move around, and look nice in photos. At the same time, their formal clothes should remain clean. So, it’s crucial: roses should not have sharp thorns, and make sure to remove the stamens from lilies. I would actually not recommend lilies with open flowers at all, as their strong scent can be disturbing to both the recipient and others. A good idea is to have your bouquet lightly wrapped in decorative paper. This way, the flowers will still peek out from the paper. There’s no need to remove the paper when giving the flowers, and it’s more convenient for both the giver and the recipient.
4) But what to give to boys? The selection of flowers for boys is actually quite broad. Stronger roses, sunflowers, delphiniums, anthuriums, strelitzias, etc. The bouquet doesn’t need to be large, but it could contain something interesting.
5) What to choose to keep the flowers beautiful until the end of the ceremony. Graduations are a real challenge for flowers. From the moment they are purchased until they are handed over, several hours may pass without water, and in the heat. And then, even more hours until the flowers are finally put in a vase. The first important step is to choose fresh flowers. All flowers last well when they are fresh and well taken care of. Of course, a safe bet would be large chrysanthemums, brightly colored carnations (a very popular flower right now), semi-closed peonies, anthuriums, strong Ecuadorian roses, etc. And definitely have the flowers packed so that the stems remain slightly moist. Moist paper and plastic wrap around the stems work really well. If this “diaper” bothers your aesthetic sense, you can remove it just before handing over the flowers.
6) If you cannot attend the graduation, you can always send flowers to the recipient’s home. If the graduation day is busy and hectic, send the flowers the next day instead. The surprise will be even greater. Be sure to add your best wishes on the card. You can send a larger and more luxurious bouquet to the home because it will arrive directly to the recipient and can be placed in water more quickly.
7) Don’t forget the teachers. Teachers have worked hard all year, and every graduating class is the result of their effort. A lovely bouquet of flowers will certainly warm their hearts.
